Introducing Pantone's colour of the year, 'Viva Magenta' 18-1750, a vibrant, optimistic and joyous colour descending from the red family.
This year, Pantone have drawn inspiration from nature as a direct rebellion against this age of technology, echoing the red of cochineal, one of the brightest, strongest and most precious natural dyes that our world has ever produced.
Red hues have long been associated with passion, heat, love and joy, pinks with playfulness, youth, caring and romance. 'Viva Magenta' strikes a balance between red and pink by bringing in the restrained introspection and quiet energy of violet.
Taking a lead, we have put together a selection of designs which we feel capture the rebellious spirit of 'Viva Magenta' and compliment this fabulous colour. Magenta shades are spiritually linked to universal harmony and emotional balance, both much needed energies while moving in to 2023 - we hope you'll agree!
The damask motif was originally produced in Damascus (Syria) in the European middle ages and from then has been produced in one or two flat colourways, adorning stately homes, brothels and everything in between.
Blackpops 'Damned Damask' collection came about when our design director Maxine Hall took the opportunity to "Moulin Rouge it up" by adding more complex layers of texture and colour. It consists of 'Moulin' with its deep reds, pinks and purples colourway, alongside 'Orpheus' which has deep teals, magentas and golds.
